The inspiration for Laurie’s Love app is the result of a beautiful friendship and deep connection with my dear friend and business colleague Laurie Brewer. She and I embarked on a challenging journey together while battling different types and forms of cancer. I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer and Laurie had been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called T-cell Prolymphocytic Leukemia four years prior. During the course of our treatments we quickly discovered the profound importance of networking with patients battling like cancers with whom you could not only discuss specific medical treatments but also provide much needed emotional support.

Laurie’s Love is a forum to speak privately and candidly with someone who understands the specific path that you are on, the precise treatments you are enduring and/or have endured, and the aftereffects of those treatments. This app is designed to be a common place to lift each other up during the difficult days and to provide inspiration on the momentous days that should be celebrated. It is a community to share personal stories to help empower one another as you work towards a victory over your cancer while keeping the faith that a cure is on the horizon.

Why the Map?

Laurie’s Love is committed to providing each member affected by cancer with a personalized support team who understands exactly what they are experiencing during their journey. We accomplish this with our comprehensive mapping system. Our application connects each member with others in the United States who share similar demographics, including specific types of cancer, age range, and gender. Upon registration, users are placed on the map via their zip code in the U.S., which allows members in a general geographical location to connect with each other and share the details of their unique cancer experience. This allows members to connect not only with someone in their town, city or county, but also anyone across the United States. The mapping feature offers members a deepened sense of connection due to the ability to see where others are located. The map function is one of the most vital components of the application as it connects warriors who are enduring the same diagnosis or members caring for or related to those with that diagnosis, inspires them to share all aspects of their stories with each other, and empowers them with the knowledge that they are not alone in their journey.
